After Film Studies at UC Berkeley, Kal spent three years in post-production at Industrial Light & Magic, contributing to projects such as Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. He then relocated to Italy, where over 15 years he built an extensive portfolio directing films and commercials for internationally renowned brands including Gucci, Armani, and Bulgari. His award winning work has featured celebrities such as James Franco and Shakira. In 2017, he moved to Beijing to continue directing high-end television commercials while exploring the region, eventually relocating to Thailand. Drawing on his experience as a director, script supervisor, writer, editor, assistant cinematographer, and actor, Kal has taught semester-long courses and intensive workshops for film students across Europe. Kal has also mentored emerging filmmakers as they developed their careers.
